Obituary of Jeanne M. Merrill

Jeanne M. Merrill passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, with loved ones by her side. Jeanne was born July 16,1930, in Gardner, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Henry Thomas Moore and Beatrice Alva (Garneau) Moore. Jeanne enjoyed her childhood in Gardner while attending the local schools. After high school graduation she attended Bay Path Junior College earning her degree as a medical secretary. While attending Bay Path, she met the love of her life, Martin A. Merrill. They were married on September1,1952. Their first son, Russell, was born in Alaska while Martin was serving in the army. They returned to Granby where they built their home and raised their six children. In addition to raising children, Jeanne and Martin owned and operated Dressel's Service Station in Granby.
Jeanne and Martin were avid travelers during their retirement. While in their RV, they enjoyed visiting every state in the United States, most often with family and friends along for the ride.
Although Jeanne was busy with children and a business, she found time to be an active citizen in the town of Granby. Jeanne was a dedicated parishioner at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby, a member of the PM Club, Women's Club, and the Historical Society. Through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, she was appointed to the Council on Aging and the Board of Registrars. Jeanne enjoyed her time working at the Town Hall very much. Jeanne also enjoyed the company of friends in the Red Hat Society. Most recently Jeanne looked forward to meeting special friends at the Something Special Cafe in Granby.
All those who knew our mother will remember her as a kind, gentle, selfless person with a great sense of humor. Her family will miss her greatly as we do our father. We will be forever grateful for the life they gave us.
Jeanne is predeceased by her husband Martin, her parents, and her 3 siblings. She is survived by son Russell and his wife Patricia, son Scott and his wife Jane, daughter Lynn and her husband James Akin, daughter Debra and her husband Michael Peloquin, son Steven and his wife Nadine, and son Douglas and his wife Cynthia.
