Nancy Hodgins

Obituary of Nancy Caryl Hodgins

Nancy C. (Redhead) Hodgins, 92, of Granby, MA passed away on January 23,2023. Born on September 27, 1930, in Caldwell, New Jersey, Nancy was the daughter of Edward and Caryl (Cheriton) Redhead. Nancy grew up in Long Island, New York, and moved to Granby Massachusetts in 1959, where she has lived a wonderful life close to her loving family ever since.

Spending much of her time in the ocean during her childhood, Nancy became an very impressive swimmer. As a young teenager, her dream in life was to get the chance to swim the English Channel. The only thing stopping her was, well first, she had to get across the Atlantic!

Nancy was also an avid golfer, being a longtime member of The Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Amherst, and The Orchards in South Hadley. She enjoyed her new friendships just as much or more than the game itself.

From the time she first moved to Granby, Nancy has and had been very involved with her congregation and all of the happenings of her beloved church— The Church of Christ in Granby, MA. Close members of her Church recall Her as being a strong and dedicated supporter of “The Women of The Church”.

In that realm, Nancy dedicated her time to the Church in every way possible. Whether it be the Church bazaar, Chicken Pot Pie Supper, selling the most raffle tickets, or working on the Church Calendar, she made it a point to be very happily involved.

It was obvious to see that the more friends Nancy had around her, the happier she was.

She loved playing bridge with good friends, especially with her women's bridge nights at her home in the past. So much fun, noise, and laughter— who said Bridge is a boring game! Add on to that the 50 years of the famous Hodgins Fourth of July parties. Many will never forget! Some of Nancy’s happiest memories were from the many trips she took with her husband, George, as well as with some of their closest friends from Granby. She particularly loved Jensen Beach in Florida.

One of the greatest joys in Nancy’s life was spending time with her grandchildren; Joey, Cody, Liam, Nolan, Nicholas, and Hayden. She enjoyed many hours with them playing board games, working on puzzles, and, of course, lots of time swimming in the family pool!

Nancy is survived by her husband, George Hodgins, as well as their three children; Thomas Hodgins, Douglas Hodgins and his wife Elizabeth, and Jillian Menard, all of Granby. She was sadly predeceased by her grand-daughter, Bridget, in 1994. Nancy also leaves her sister Janice Carmien (Barbara) of Easthampton, MA, and David Redhead (Marlene) of Endicott, New York, as well as several nieces and nephews.
