Obituary of Robert W. Farrington

Robert W. Farrington (“Bob”), age 71, of Belchertown, passed away on January 23, 2023. He was born in Springfield, MA on March 5, 1951, a beloved son of the late George and Isabelle (Deyermond) Farrington. Bob was a graduate of Technical High School and was a great drummer in the high school band. He also played with various bands in the area. He worked for 31 years at MassMutual in Springfield. Bob built a second successful career as a commercial tire salesman for several tire companies in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut. He had an avid love of all things race car related and especially had a love of Nascar racing. He traveled to lots of races with both of his sons over the years who also inherited his passion for the sport. He enjoyed many years of racing his own cars with his two sons and with his long time friend, Roy Seidell of Easthampton. Bob also served on the committee to build the new police station in Belchertown and was a current member of the Belchertown Council on Aging, serving as its President in the past. Bob’s greatest joy in life was to watch both of his sons grow from little guys to very successful adults. He was so very proud of them, and they spent many hours in lively discussions about all kinds of things. His many summers spent in Maine with his family meant the world to him, and our memories of those vacations will always stay with us. Bob leaves his beloved wife of 47 years, Anne Farrington (Lucius), his son, Robert Farrington of Enfield, Connecticut and his son, Attorney Geoffrey Farrington of Hampden, MA and his wife Kelly. He also leaves behind his much cherished and lively grandchildren, Kennan Farrington and Grant Farrington of Hampden, MA. Bob leaves three brothers, William Farrington, and his wife Eileen of Little River, South Carolina, David Farrington and his wife Nancy of Belchertown, MA and James Farrington and his wife Karen of The Villages, Florida. There is an old Irish proverb which so perfectly defines this gentle man, and it reads, “A quiet tongue shows a wise head”. Until we all meet again, may he eternally hear the words, “Gentlemen, start your engines”! There are no visiting hours and burial services will be private. Funeral services are entrusted to Beers and Story Funeral Home in Belchertown.
