Obituary of Paulette E. Wiley

South Hadley—Paulette E. (Ouellette) Wiley, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Wing Memorial Hospital. Daughter of the late Paul and Cecile (Giroux) Ouellette, she was born in Rumford, Maine on August 26, 1933. Having graduated from Stevens High School, she served her country in the United States Air Force where she met her husband, Ken, and they went on to have 5 children and travel the world and throughout the United States.

After their honorable and faithful service, they settled in South Hadley. Paulette worked in clerical positions for local moving companies, later retiring as the union secretary for American Bosch. She then returned to work as a driver at Sunshine Village, ultimately assuming the role of a supervisor.

One of her favorite past times was playing cards; she spent time playing pitch and rummy at the Senior Center and taught local elementary school children how to play cribbage.

Paulette was an avid communicant of St. Patrick's Church, attending Mass daily and proceeding to the Egg & I for breakfast with the gang after church.

She was an avid gardener, enjoyed watching and feeding birds in her yard, played in a bowling league and loved to watch the New England teams and any sport her children or grandchildren played. She was the real DIY type, teaching herself how to fix cars, plumbing, electrical, drywall, then make the most amazing meals, followed by crafts after dinner.

Paulette will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, including her 4 children Kenneth Wiley of NH, Chuck Wiley of So. Hadley, William Wiley of Chicopee, and Cynthia Laramee of Belchertown; her sisters Noella Ouellette Birchman of Canada and Constance Uithol of Michigan, as well as her brother, Paul Ouellette of CT; her 6 grandchildren, David & Samantha Laramee, Caitlin & Colleen Wiley, and Shane & Will Wiley; her great-grandson, Caleb Wiley; as well as many extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Wiley, in 1997 and her son, Steven Wiley in 2018, as well as her in-laws, Roger Birchman, Jan Ouellette, and Burt Uithol.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 11am-1:30pm at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street. A funeral home service will begin at 1:30pm with a procession to immediately follow for burial in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam.
