Obituary of Barbara A. Sypek

Barbara Ann Sypek, 78, passed away March 13, 2021. She was born on August 7, 1942 in Springfield to the late John and Lena (Slowick) Szlachetka. Barbara previously worked in Accounts Receivable at BHN in Springfield for many years. A devout Catholic, Barbara was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in South Hadley after relocating from Chicopee. Barbara was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed sharing her Polish heritage at every holiday with a variety of delicious dishes and homemade cupcakes and desserts that everyone adored. Barbara cherished her family vacations on Cape Cod sitting on the beach for hours and enjoyed the times spent going out to dinner with her girlfriends every month. Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael Sypek Jr. in 1991. She will be forever missed by her daughter, Kara and husband Douglas Mercier of South Hadley; her son, Gary and wife Melissa Sypek of Lake Worth, FL.; as well as her grandchildren, Jordyn and Emma Mercier, and Colin and Corrine Sypek, along with her breakfast and lunch time buddy, Scarlett. In addition, she leaves behind many extended family and very dear friends that she held close to her heart. A calling hour will be held March 18th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Patrick's Church at 11:00 a.m.. Due to current restrictions, burial will be held privately. For those wishing, donations in Barbara's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
