Obituary of Nena Ellen McCloud-Walker

Belchertown- Nena Ellen McCloud-Walker, 71, passed away May 10, 2020 with her loving husband by her side. She was born on July 5, 1948 in San Rafael, California to James and Margaret (Sheehy) McCourt. A longtime resident of Belchertown, Nena previously worked as a special education classroom assistant at Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative and a bookkeeper at New England Systems. She was a crafts woman of many talents including: leather work, silver jewelry, custom ear rings, quilting, bread baking, caning, gardening, spinning and knitting. Nena was a voracious reader and used her knowledge of books to price the special selections at the Belchertown Library book sale.

Nena enjoyed family history research and traveled to Ireland twice to visit the McCourt family homestead and spend time getting to know the Irish cousins. Her love of California and Maine remained strong throughout her life and drew her to explore each state’s natural wonders.

She will be dearly missed by her husband Jim Walker and siblings Laure Lopez of Auburn, Maine and Gary McCourt of Santa Cruz, California as well as their spouses Sharon McCourt and Gilbert Lopez and Nena’s nephews Sean McCourt of San Francisco and Tomas Lopez of Auburn and Nena’s niece Katie McCourt of Santa Cruz; her four brothers-in-law and their families.

 Volunteering at the Clapp Library is the best way to honor her life.
