I wanted to say a few words about my Auntie...my Godmother, my friend.
Auntie and I were always close, but when we moved to 9 Mile Pond in 2000 our relationship was truly cemented! For the next 16 years we saw each other several times a week....maybe we were each outside in the spring cleaning up or gardening. I enjoyed the scent from her magnificent Lilac bush in my kitchen because she always sent some my way. Lazy summer days were for sipping tea in front of the Pond, chit chatting about this or that, my dog Mai-Ling always on her lap! Robert was often there and they would read in quiet companionship. Fall was for raking and getting ready for winter, delivering her soups while we shared our holiday plans. She never forgot my birthday though I asked her time and again to stop..just this past December I received the most beautiful card "to my Niece" with a gift card, even though she was living on a budget. She was generous like that.
She loved to come up to the glider when I was out with Jack, and later Brady. She had a way with little ones and would ask them such great questions about their day!
She never got over Mom leaving, and often when I was in her kitchen, she said that she looked up at the house every day and missed her so much.
She got a big kick over Jacks Blueberry haul in early August, and we always made sure she got her muffins!
We had many walks around the island, and she was a good sport when she agreed she needed to use a cane.
She was such a champion of my art, always wanting to know what I was working on, always so supportive and encouraging. I began giving her painted rocks, and she loved to display them in her garden, and the Christmas ones on
her coffee table.
Auntie not only loved her immediate family, but her extended family. It is displayed all over her refrigerator from the East coast to the West coast. Her extended family meant the world to her and she delighted in each and every family interaction!
She was so proud of her mantle of angels, and I would often comment to her about her remarkable collection; it was her pride and joy!
She also was a good listener...we spent many days sitting on 2 chairs in a quiet kitchen during some sad days. Sometimes it was just no words, and tears, other times she would smile, shrug and say don't worry honey, it will be alright!,
She was kind, sweet, happy, caring...she was the Real Thing, and we all loved her!
Lastly, she loved the Lord with her whole being. She trusted in him with no question, and she was grateful for her life.
Night Night Auntie, I love you and will never forget you. You meant the world to me!
I can only imagine your joy entering the Kingdom of Heaven
